This article has not been updated for OmniFocus 4.
When logging in to OmniFocus for the Web for the first time without having previously used OmniFocus 3 for Mac or iOS, you may encounter one of the following errors:
Unable to log in: Database needs to be encrypted
This error occurs when your OmniFocus database hasn’t been upgraded to the latest format, used by OmniFocus 3 and OmniFocus for the Web. OmniFocus for the Web requires this format–you’ll need to choose between using it and syncing with older versions of OmniFocus.
If you’d like to use OmniFocus for the Web, use Migrate Database… item from the OmniFocus 3 for Mac File menu or OmniFocus 3 for iOS Settings to migrate your database to a format compatible with OmniFocus for the Web. Database migration is covered in detail in this support article.
Unable to log in: Database not found
OmniFocus for the Web is designed as an add-on for OmniFocus for iOS and OmniFocus for Mac, and can’t create a task database on its own. If you encounter this error, you’ll need to configure OmniFocus 3 for Mac or iOS to sync with your Omni Account, either during first run if you haven’t yet completed it, or by changing Sync Settings (iOS) or Preferences (Mac).
