OmniFocus error: “Required Operation Not Supported by WebDAV Server”

This error message is an indication that your WebDAV server doesn’t fully support the WebDAV specification and that OmniFocus can’t overwrite one of its own files on the server in order to continue syncing. If you don’t manage your own server, you’ll either need to get your provider to update their WebDAV configuration so that OmniFocus can sync, or find another provider (free accounts are available at sync.omnigroup.com). If you’d like your server administrator to update their configuration to support OmniFocus, it may be helpful to point them at the information below.

If you need help setting up sync with a new provider, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

For Server Administrators

The error occurs when OmniFocus issues a WebDAV MOVE request to overwrite an existing file in its database. Per the WebDAV specification, this request includes the HTTP header Overwrite: T. A conforming server must honor this header and delete any existing file to move the new file into place.

Instead, it appears that some servers return HTTP 409 Conflict. OmniFocus interprets this as a sync error, preventing any further sync with the server.

Note

In versions of OmniFocus prior to 2.19.1 for iOS and 2.9.1 for Mac, you may see “This Database is Already Encrypted” instead.
