Scheduling time off in OmniPlan

How do I set up vacation days, sick days, half-days, or holidays?

To set up the normal work hours in a week, open the View menu and select Calendar View. The window will change; you should now see a calendar with 2 green bubbles. OmniPlan will only schedule tasks in the times covered by one of those green bubbles. If you click and drag the bubbles around, you can make the working hours longer, shorter, or go into the weekends as well. This is your default weekly schedule, which is why there are no specific dates attached to each day; it’s just a generic seven-day week.

Scheduling changes will apply to the whole project if no resources are selected in the list, and the top of the calendar view will confirm that you’re editing the Work Schedule for Project. If you select an individual resource in the sidebar, you’ll instead be specifying a schedule for that individual; the text above the date header will read Work Schedule for (Resource Name).

If, for example, you want to shut down for Christmas, you’ll need to make some exceptions to that default schedule. To do this, ensure no resources are selected in the list. Click in the blank area below the last resource to clear your current selection, or Command-Click the currently highlighted resource to do the same. Then, click Extra & Off Hours from the toggle below the resource list. Use the arrows bracketing the current month in the mini-calendar to navigate to December, then click on the week of Christmas (the 25th) to access the exceptions calendar for that week.

Upon selecting that week in the mini-calendar, the schedule for that week will display in the main chart area to the right. To quickly block out working time from the schedule, hold the Shift key while clicking and dragging your cursor in the calendar to create a block of Off Hours, indicated by a red box. To add Extra Hours, double-click and drag to create a blue box.

Alternatively, if your time off only applies to a certain resource, first select that resource from the list before specifying these Off Hours. This schedule exception will only apply to a particular resource, and not the entire work schedule for your project.
