Troubleshooting “Unable to install update” Errors

This article applies to Omni Store downloads of our apps. If you installed the app from the Mac App Store and are encountering errors like this, please reach out to our Support Team.


Common error messages:

  • Error: Unable to install update
    Reason: Extract script failed.

  • Error: Unable to install update
    Reason: Install script failed.

  • Error: Unable to install update
    Reason: A necessary installation step was skipped.

These errors often mean that the app was successfully able to contact our server and download the compressed update file, but later in the install process, we’re unable to locate that file. Most often, this is caused by third-party disk cleaning apps that grab the file we download, expand it, and then delete the file before the update was finished.

The best workaround for this error is to manually install the latest version of the app from our Downloads page.
