Currently, Omni Sync Server data is hosted on server hardware located within the United States. For OmniFocus customers located outside of the United States, physical distance from sync server hardware can negatively impact the speed at which OmniFocus is able to sync. In an effort to improve sync speed for these customers, our team is conducting a user test of new sync servers in alternate geographic locations.
How to participate in this test:
Alternate Omni Sync Server location testing will begin with two new test sync servers, located in data centers in Europe and in Southeast Asia. If you’re interested in participating in this test, please send an email to sync@omnigroup.com with the following information:
- Your Omni Account name
- Your approximate geographic location
- An OmniFocus sync log from at least one of your devices (this log should provide representative data about typical OmniFocus sync speeds)
What to expect from this test:
After our team has confirmed test enrollment, your sync server data will be migrated to the alternate server hardware location you are in closest proximity to. You may notice a brief sync interruption while your account migration is in progress; if you encounter network timeout errors, please wait a few moments and reattempt sync. We will send an email notifying you when your account has been migrated successfully.
OmniFocus data will remain encrypted when it is migrated to a test server, and we anticipate that sync will continue to function as normal after the migration has completed. While we believe the likelihood of dataloss to be very low, we do recommend ensuring your OmniFocus is data is backed up locally.
If you wish to migrate your data back to non-test sync server hardware or encounter trouble syncing, creating items via Mail Drop, or accessing OmniFocus for the Web after your data hase been migrated to an alternate sync server location, please send us an email! Our team will be in touch over the course of this test to review sync behavior and confirm improvements in sync speed.
