Family Sharing with an Omni Account

In addition to keeping track of your purchases for the purpose of upgrade pricing and unlocking our apps on your own devices, your Omni Account can also be used to share purchases between members of your family. This articles covers the rules and restrictions that apply to family sharing, and instructions for how to go about sharing a purchase using your Omni Account.



Rules and restrictions

  • Under the licensing terms for apps registered with an Omni Account, a single account can be used to unlock its associated apps for other immediate family members living in the same household.

  • Applies to versions of our apps released after June 2020 that support unlocking via Omni Accounts.

  • Applies to personal licenses and subscriptions only; team licenses and subscriptions are excluded.

  • Applies to both Omni Store and Apple App Store purchases.

  • Applies on a per-platform basis for traditional one-time purchases of our Mac and iOS apps that are still sold separately; the exceptions to this are OmniFocus 4 and OmniPlan 4, which use a new universal license where a single traditional purchase grants you access to the app on all supported platforms.

  • Access to OmniFocus for the Web cannot be shared, as the subscription can only be associated with a single OmniFocus database.

    When sharing a purchase of OmniFocus on Mac, iPhone, or iPad, each family member can use their own Omni Account credentials to setup syncing separately their own database, after separately using the shared Omni Account to unlock the app.


Sharing Omni Store purchases with your family

To start make sure that the purchase you want to share is registered with your Omni Account. You can check this by signing into your Omni Account managemnet page.

  • New purchases made from the Omni Store require an Omni Account, which the purchase will be automatically registered to; no license key will be issued.

  • If you purchased the app before the Omni Account system was in place and were issues a license key, you can use this link to associate your license key with your account.

Once you’ve verified the purchase is associated with your Omni Account, have your family member download the app from our website. You’ll then need to enter your credentials to sign in using your Omni Account when they first launch the app.

If your family member has already signed into the app using another Omni Account — perhaps they started their own trial — have them choose App Menu > Manage Omni Account and Purchases and log out of that account, then you sign back in with your Omni Account to unlock the app for them.

Similarly, if they are already using the app in Free Viewer mode, choose App Menu > Unlock [App] to do the same.


Sharing Mac App Store purchases with your family

To start make sure that the purchase you want to share is registered with your Omni Account. You can check this by signing into your Omni Account managemnet page.

  • In current versions of our apps, when buying a Standard or Pro traditional license or a Subscription via an in-app purchase, you will be asked to sign in to your Omni Account, and the purchase will then be automatically registered with your account.

  • If you have an existing in-app purchase that is not yet associated with your Omni Account, see how to register the purchase with your account here.

Once you’ve verified the purchase is associated with your Omni Account, have your family member download the app from our website*. You’ll then need to enter your credentials to sign in using your Omni Account when they first launch the app.

If your family member has already signed into the app using another Omni Account — perhaps they started their own trial — have them choose App Menu > Manage Omni Account and Purchases and log out of that account, then you sign back in with your Omni Account to unlock the app for them.

Similarly, if they are already using the app in Free Viewer mode, choose App Menu > Unlock [App] to do the same.

They can also download from the Mac App Store, but downloading from our website is recommened as it can make for easier and more flexible troubleshooting if problems arise.


Sharing iPhone and iPad App Store purchases with your family

To start make sure that the purchase you want to share is registered with your Omni Account. You can check this by signing into your Omni Account managemnet page.

  • In current versions of our apps, when buying a Standard or Pro traditional license or a Subscription via an in-app purchase, you will be asked to sign in to your Omni Account, and the purchase will then be automatically registered with your account.

  • If you have an existing in-app purchase that is not yet associated with your Omni Account, see how to register the purchase with your account here.

Once you’ve verified the purchase is associated with your Omni Account, have your family member download the app from the App Store on their iPhone or iPad. You’ll then need to enter your credentials to sign in using your Omni Account when they first launch the app.

If your family member has already signed into the app using another Omni Account — perhaps they started their own trial — they’ll need to sign out of that account, then have you sign back in using your account to unlock the app for them.
