If you purchased an Omni application before the Omni Account system was fully in place (summer 2020), the application may prompt you to create or sign in to an Omni Account and associate your purchase with it in order to unlock its functionality or access upgrade discounts.
Your Omni Account is where you register and keep track of your Omni app purchases and subscriptions. Going through the one-time registration process associated with an app purchase ensures that you always get correct upgrade pricing and can easily restore your purchases when moving to new hardware.
Registering your previous purchases is optional, but highly recommended for the improved upgrade experience and built-in ability to manage and keep track of your purchases.
This article explains how register a past purchase with your Omni Account, in two scenarios:
You can also unlock your past purchases without registering them, if you choose. These sections explain how:
All modern Omni applications have been updated to require association with an Omni Account upon initial purchase. If you are purchasing an application for the first time, see Buying Omni applications for iOS and Buying Omni Applications for Mac to get started.
Registering an Omni License Key with your Omni Account
If you purchased one of the following apps from the Omni Store prior to summer 2020, when changing system hardware or upgrading to a new version of macOS you may be asked to associate your app purchase with an Omni Account.
Compact-list
- OmniFocus 3 for Mac
- OmniOutliner 5 for Mac
- OmniGraffle 7 for Mac
You will only be asked to do this once per app license. Once your purchase is linked to your account, you can use your account details to log in and unlock the app on other devices you own.
-
First, start by creating your Omni Account if you don’t have one yet. If you are an existing user of OmniFocus you may have an account already; the username and password are the same as your Omni Sync Server credentials.
-
Next, sign in to your Omni Account. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Add License Key in the Licenses section.
-
Enter the license owner name and license key exactly as you received them when you purchased the app, then click Save. The license appears listed as registered and associated with your Omni Account.
-
To unlock a registered application, open it and choose App Menu > Unlock AppName to open the Omni Account login dialog (this may also appear as App Menu > Manage Omni Account and Purchases if you had the app previously installed and unlocked. In this case, see Registering a License Key for instructions).
-
Enter your account name and password, and the application is unlocked.
If you own an older version of one of Omni’s applications purchased traditionally through the Omni Store, it will not require registration with your Omni Account. However, you can still register it using the steps above in order to receive upgrade pricing for a newer version.
Registering a Mac App Store Purchase with your Omni Account

Compact-list
- OmniFocus 3 for Mac
- OmniOutliner 5 for Mac
- OmniGraffle 7 for Mac
-
First, start by creating your Omni Account if you don’t have one yet. If you are an existing user of OmniFocus you may have an account already; the username and password are the same as your Omni Sync Server credentials.
-
Next open the app and choose App Menu > In-App Purchases. If you need to restore any in-app purchases, do that here first.
-
After checking on your in-app purchases, choose App Menu > Unlock AppName to open the Omni Account login dialog (this may also appear as App Menu > Manage Omni Account and Purchases if you had the app previously installed and unlocked. In this case, see see Registering an In-App Purchase for instructions).
-
Use your Omni Account credentials to log in here.
-
Previously purchased in-app purchases appear in the License section of the Omni Account screen. Click Register next to the edition of the app that you have purchased, and the app is registered to your Omni Account. (If you don’t see a license here that you expect, please contact us.)
After registering your in-app purchase, you can use your Omni Account to unlock the app on other Macs you own.
If you own an older version of one of Omni’s applications purchased from the Mac App Store, it will not require registration with your Omni Account. You can receive upgrade pricing for a newer version by following these steps.
